Storybook Land Canal Boats

Throughout Disney parks history, the use of a technique known as forced perspective has been a game changer in how an attraction is presented to the Guests. One classic example of this technique is to be found in the Storybook Land Canal Boats ride at Disneyland.
At first glance, this attraction is really nothing more than a simple boat ride while looking at some models of various sets from Disney lore. As such, I would imagine that this attraction sees its share of Guests skipping it so that they can head over to the Matterhorn instead.
However, don’t be fooled. When you skip this ride, you miss out on a chance to take a walk back in time — back to July 17, 1955, the day that Disneyland opened. You see, the Storybook Land Canal Boats ride is a 1955 Original attraction! Taking this ride gives you a chance to imagine your boat captain to be none other than the big man himself, Walt Disney. Obviously, the attraction has gone through several adaptations over the years, but the overall premise of the ride remains the same.
Your journey starts by entering the mouth of Monstro the whale from the Disney movie Pinocchio. Don’t worry, though, you won’t be eaten — instead, you’ll be transported into Storybook Land, and all of the intricate scenes. Little known fact: Monstro in Portuguese translates to monster in English. Seems fitting when you watch the movie!
The Storybook Land Canal Boats is a relaxing, whimsical ride. It’s not a thrill ride by any means, but it has a certain charm despite that. Here’s a look at the photos I’ve got from the ride. Tell me, what is your favorite scene from the ride? Let us know in the comments!
